How Coaching Supports Your Practice

Health coaching gives clients a dedicated space to focus on the behavior-change side of their health. In coaching conversations, clients can clarify their next actions, strengthen accountability, and work through what supports or interferes with putting guidance from care into practice. This adds continuity beyond the appointment while keeping the client active in the process.

The Role of A Health Coach

Health coaching supports behavior change as clients clarify self-directed goals, identify action steps, and build accountability. The American Medical Association describes health coaching as a team-based approach that supports patients in strengthening the knowledge, skills, and confidence to take an active role in their care. Adding a health coach to the client's care team creates a defined role for behavior-change support alongside the practitioner's clinical or therapeutic role.

When to Refer

Consider a referral when a client has received guidance in your care and would benefit from added accountability as that direction is put into practice. This is especially relevant when progress depends on how the client applies that guidance outside the appointment. Coaching can provide a consistent place to address barriers, reinforce action, and keep the client engaged in the process of change.
